Dāna is a small, ceremonial iOS application that helps practicing Buddhists honor a daily commitment to generosity. The user pledges an amount they intend to give each day, then returns to the app to confirm when they have actually given. A cute, Chinese-styled Buddha character offers a blessing at each interaction, and the app tracks accumulated merit (功德) over time. Who said "giving" cannot be a fun, and rich multimedia experience?

Story
Dāna supports the daily practice of giving — what Buddhists call dāna (布施).
It does not move money. You do that.
The act of giving — to a temple, a person, a charity — happens in the world, with your hands. The app is the small ritual around it.
Please remember that dāna is not just about donating money, but it is about compassion, wisdom and general friendliness to the people and life around us. Just saying "Hello", "Thank you" and "Please" is a form of dāna.
The practice loop
Choose a daily giving amount and a category: life release, sangha offering, flower offering, meal offering, tsok offering, child sponsorship, ORBIS, stray animals, elderly living alone, or a general dāna pledge. When you have actually given, in the world, open Dāna and confirm. A small Buddha figure offers a blessing; merit accumulates by distinct calendar days, not by frequency.
You can hold up to ten active pledges at once — one per category — and add your own custom merit categories alongside the ten ceremonial ones (premium feature).
Companions
Your practice begins with a teacher in the living lineage called the "First Companion".
Every twenty-one days, another companion is invited to walk with you — Guanyin, Green Tārā, Mañjuśrī, Vajrasattva, Padmasambhava — and at the culmination, Śākyamuni Buddha. Once invited, a companion stays. There is no streak, no
leaderboard, no shame.
A Buddhist calendar, multi-tradition
The Calendar tab carries twenty Buddhist festivals from Japanese, Chinese, and Tibetan traditions, with optional lunar overlays for the Ten Observance Days (十齋日), each with the traditional deity card. Personal dates (birthdays, days of remembrance) appear quietly as small hearts on the same grid.
Reading and reflection
A bundled Library carries the Heart Sutra, the Diamond Sutra (selected passages), the 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva, the Karaṇīya Mettā Sutta, and selected Dhammapada — each with optional plain-language commentary. A short Reflections section offers two contemplative games on the six virtues; round endings show a small radar chart of where your choices sit. No scoring, no shame.
Honor system, always
No verification. No tracking. No analytics. No subscriptions. Your practice record stays on your device, optionally synced via your own private iCloud account.
Languages
English, 繁體中文, 简体中文, and 日本語, with calligraphic ornament in Tibetan and Chinese script. The script appears as decoration; Dāna does not change your device language.
